History For The Reckoning Podcast On Neglected History

Also...NYC Podcast Award Winners Announced

By Frank RacioppiPublished about 9 hours ago 3 min read

History for the Reckoning is a new podcast that launched on February 19th, 2026. The show defines itself as “a podcast exploring uncomfortable, overlooked, or erased American history through expert interviews.”

The word “reckoning” is an interesting choice because it is defined as, “the action or process of calculating or estimating something.” I think it’s a perfect title because history is always about revisiting the past with the present in mind. Too often, what’s happened in our past has a direct result on what’s transpiring in our present. This series explores hidden or misremembered history, featuring historians, scholars, and firsthand accounts.

History for the Reckoning in season one focuses on American Concentration Camps: The Story of WWII Japanese Incarceration.

Host Spencer Ford explains: “Each season we’ll dig into a history that we’ve misremembered, tried not to think hard about, or even tried to erase. Through interviews with historians, scholars, artists, and people who lived the history firsthand, we’ll learn with the depth each topic deserves.”

The podcast is sponsored by the JACL Mt Olympus Chapter, the Takahashi Family Foundation, and the JA Community Foundation.

Host Spencer Ford is a writer and theater maker based in Utah. He’s been involved in a range of media, writing stage musicals, screenplays, and children’s books. In fact, it was research for the series of children’s books he co-wrote (The Little-Known Heroes Series) that first ignited his understanding of and interest in the Incarceration, when he learned the story of Frank Emi. When he’s not hosting or writing or performing, he spends time with his perfect wife and baby, and their labradoodle.

NYC Podcast Award Winners Announced

Kudos to multi-hyphenate Cory Choy. He pulled off the perfect NYC Podcast Awards ceremony on Friday night. The NYC Podcast Awards announced its winners, culminating a highly successful awards process.

Here is a link to all the winners. In this article, we will highlight a few.

First, just a little background. The NYC Podcast Awards proudly display its independent streak, with its Director, Cory Choy, noting, “The NYC Podcast Awards recognize excellence in audio storytelling while championing voices that have been historically underrepresented. We believe exceptional podcasting knows no boundaries — whether geographic, cultural, or economic — and our awards reflect that commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.”

Here is an entry from Podnews on December 10, 2025: “Just days after the announcement of the Golden Globes podcast nominees, the NYC Podcast Awards have been announced. The organizers say they are launching, in direct opposition to the download-first culture dominating podcasting, The Libby Awards to recognize craft: sound design, writing, acting, engineering — and the creators themselves — as highly as audience size.

Corey Choy expands: “The NYC Podcast Awards were born from a simple observation: while podcasting has exploded globally, many exceptional creators — particularly from underrepresented communities — remain overlooked by traditional industry recognition. We created these awards to bridge that gap. We believe New York City, as a global crossroads of culture and media, is uniquely positioned to celebrate the full spectrum of audio storytelling talent.”

Cory Choy is the owner of Silver Sound, an Emmy Award-winning NYC-based boutique studio in the FlatIron District of Manhattan. Cory also wrote, produced, and directed Esme, My Love, a 2022 American psychological horror film, which won best thriller/suspense film, best director for Choy, and best cinematographer for Fletcher Wolfe at the Cannes World Film Festival.
