Dance On Their Graves

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 9 hours ago 2 min read

Verse 1

They whispered in the shadows,

Hoping I would break in two.

But I learned to waltz with thunder

When the night wind called me through.

They carved my name in rumors,

Tried to bind me with their blame—

But I lit a match of laughter

And I burned right through their shame.

Pre-Chorus

I don’t need to curse or cry,

I don’t need to beg or bleed.

I just let my boots start pounding

Every time they plant a seed.

Chorus

Sometimes the best revenge

Is to dance on the edge of the dark.

Let ‘em watch me spin like fire

While their bitterness falls apart.

I’ve got rhythm they can’t poison,

Joy they’ll never understand—

Sometimes the sweetest vengeance

Is a dance they never planned.

Verse 2

They tried to drag me under,

Where the cold creek hides its stones.

But I rose up dripping moonlight

With a heartbeat made of bones.

They wanted me to tremble,

To bow beneath their spite—

But I stomped the floor so hard

The ghosts came out to watch the fight.

Pre-Chorus

I don’t need their twisted stories,

I don’t need their crooked praise.

I just let my shadow lead me

In a thousand haunted ways.

Chorus

Sometimes the best revenge

Is to dance on the edge of the dark.

Let ‘em watch me spin like fire

While their bitterness falls apart.

I’ve got rhythm they can’t poison,

Joy they’ll never understand—

Sometimes the sweetest vengeance

Is a dance they never planned.

Bridge

Let them whisper in the rafters,

Let them choke on what they made.

I’ll be swirling through the graveyard

Where their curses start to fade.

Every step becomes a spell,

Every sway a sovereign claim—

I don’t rise by tearing others,

I rise by lighting up the flame.

Final Chorus

Sometimes the best revenge

Is to dance on the edge of the dark.

Let ‘em watch me glow like embers

While their bitterness loses spark.

I’ve got rhythm they can’t poison,

Peace they’ll never understand—

Sometimes the sweetest vengeance

Is a dance they never planned.

Outro

So I’ll keep dancing in the moonlight,

Let the whole ridge hear me say—

Sometimes the best revenge

Is to dance the night away.
