“‘Have fun,’

they say! As if I wouldn’t already be having fun if I knew how.”

“I swear! Even when people try to cheer you up, you play the victim!"

“I am a victim.”

“How old are you again? Sixty?”

“Very funny, arsehole. You know I’m forty-seven!"

PS-- To be clear: "forty-seven" is one word, not two. There's nothing arbitrary about that. That's a rule of English (I think): that hyphenated words are considered conjoined. If you question that, do keep in mind that I could have just as easily changed it to read "47."

Same difference.

The story stands on its own merits and should not be disqualified for controversy regarding our chosen language. Going down this dangerous road leads to questions about contractions.... and Do We Really Want to Go There?

I wrote a story for this challenge too and used a hyphenated word. But I had to double confirm beforehand with Paul and John if it would be counted as one word, and they said yes hehehe. Loved your story!

Ok, there's more to this one here, and we both know it. So much more, especially under the surface.
