I Know Am Losing You

There’s nothing I can do

I Know Am Losing You

I felt it before I understood it,

that small shift,

that distance that cannot be measured

but can be felt in everything.

You still speak,

you still stand in the same space,

but something has moved,

something has stepped back

without saying a word.

I watch the way you look now,

not the same,

not as long,

not as deeply as before.

There are pauses where there were none,

silences that stretch

just a little too far,

moments where I feel

like I am standing alone

even when you are there.

I do not ask,

because I already know,

there is a truth in this

that does not need to be spoken

to be real.

People do not always leave suddenly,

sometimes they go slowly,

piece by piece,

until what remains

is only a shadow of what was.

And I stand here feeling it happen,

unable to stop it,

unable to pull you back

to where you once were.

There is no anger in this,

just a quiet ache,

a knowing that something important

is slipping through my hands

without resistance.

I know I am losing you,

not all at once,

not in a single moment,

but in a slow, steady way

that makes it harder to accept.

And the hardest part is

you may not even realise it,

while I feel every inch

of the distance growing between us.

Good job and showing how to accept losing a friend one way or another.
