When regret is the only thing left to hold

If only

You loved me

You held me

You saw me

You cared

If only

You listened

You heard me

You noticed

You shared

If only

I loved you

I held you

I saw you

I cared

If only

I listened

I heard you

I noticed

I shared

If only

We learnt to be better

Put stubbornness aside

Reached out to each other

And swallowed our pride

If only

Your pages kept turning

Your chapter didn’t end

And the imprints you left

Weren’t wounds left to mend

If only

We’d both had more time

We could do it all again

Replace our hate with kindness

And heal what broke back then.
