Photo: mine

Mothers protect

Their children from

Knifing past

Watching one’s own

Scars awkwardly heal

Wonky welts fading

From angry red

To white

Mine spared me

Shielding from

Fractured family

I spared him from

Isolation and

Irrational fear

I wear a soul

Of softness

Sharpening blades

Is not my forte

Thankful for

Many small choices

Gently bending rivers

So that

Hard lines

In the sand

Only need to

Be drawn once

Fantastic poem and so sweet. There's an obvious joy in the picture that mirrors the more subtle, softer joy throughout the poem. Loved it!!

🌼If you look at the socket in the back, you can see a depiction of how shocked and pleased I am to see the beauty in both your happy smile and your son's own. This photo is so natural and heartwarming; it already puts this poem at 10/10. 🌼We see in your poem how the scars from childhood can still impact your life and that of your child. Yet, you show such softness and protection to help him through his own journey.

Well-wrought! Picking one's battles should always be about avoiding strife as much as we can.

Awwww, first of all I freakin' love the photo 🫠🥹 you both are looking awesome seriously!! And your poem is really touching. This made me think about how people don’t always realize the quiet protection parents give us until much later. 💖
