RAIN
the wind was howling
*
I listened in the darkness to the thunder as it roared.
The lightning then lit up the sky in a flash both bright and broad.
The wind was howling loud enough as if it were in pain.
The pounding was most deafening as it began to rain.
In the dark of night, I closed my eyes, a thought ran through my mind:
A blade of grass, a budding leaf, flowers of all kinds.
I thought I smelled the fragrance of the budding of the rose.
It might have been the lily, the daffodil – who knows!
The storm was passing quickly; soon we’d see the moon shine bright.
Between the rain and moon’s sweet smile, there’d be magic done tonight.
For some time in the next few days, we’ll see a wondrous thing –
Through the violence of a raging storm, we’ll see the miracle of spring.
