Born in England (some say Scotland) around 381 A.D.

kidnapped as a teenager and taken to Ireland as a slave

Five years later you escaped and returned to England

but you went back to Ireland as a missionary

In 433 A.D. you lit a huge fire on Slane Hill on the eve of Easter after the pagan king had decreed that there no light during the druid celebration.

He was impressed with the idea that you would risk your life to light that fire, and so your fire remained lit on the highest hill. So that everyone could see the light of Christ during the celebration of darkness..

"Be Thou My Vision" was a poem written to commemorate that giant fire, the light of Christ that burned bright in the dark on the eve of Easter ( Paschal).

Origin: The poem, originally titled "Rob tu mo bhoile, a Comdi cride," is attributed to Irish monk St. Dallán Forgaill in the 6th-8th century.

Translation: Irish scholar Mary Byrne translated the text into literal English prose in 1905, which was then versified by Eleanor Hull in 1912.

Melody: The lyrics are sung to the traditional Irish tune "Slane," named after Slane Hill, where St. Patrick famously lit a fire defying a pagan king.

There is a legend that you removed the snakes from Ireland, but what you really did was bring Christianity to Ireland and that is what drove the Serpent out.

The shamrock is a symbol that is associated with Ireland and St. Patrick's Day. It has three leaves.- one for the Father, one for the Son and one for the Spirit. The shamrock is used to represent Trinity. ☘️
