After leaving work I didn't go straight home, as I was too wound up over what had happened that afternoon. I also believed that my mother would quite likely explode when she saw my scratched face and torn shirt and found out what had happened, so I figured I needed to think about things for a little while first.

So . . . now that I've laid out my plans for my fictional "Thompsonville" universe, those plans needed to have some flesh added to their bones. Here are some fictional details for my fictional town, which helps set a timeline, establish the geography etc etc etc

A Figment of My Imagination (Part One)
One of the things I love most about fiction, both as a reader and an author, is that it gives you the ability to travel to anywhere, or to any time, to do anything, or to experience all that this world – or any other world for that matter – can offer.

The look of anger on Mike's face would have been enough to scare the bejesus out of just about anyone, I thought. It certainly had the desired effect on Troy and Dan, as they backed away. I arrived home to an empty house but wishing that someone had been there to at least talk to. Even if it had been my father, even that would have been okay, just so long as I wasn't alone to wallow in my self-pity. I needed a distraction, pure and simple, so that in my mind I wasn't stuck going over the events of the day again and again and again. Was that too much to ask?

The truth always comes out. Or so they say. The revelation that my mother's brother, Bryan, was actually gay came as a real surprise to me. As did the fact that it was my father who had forbidden the information being spoken of. Dad had always been an aloof and often cranky character, but I'd never thought of him as being such a bigot and homophobe.
